RANGER, Ga. - The son-in-law of legendary test pilot Scott Crossfield confirmed today that Crossfield's body was found in the wreckage of his plane in north Georgia.
In a telephone interview from his his home in Herndon, Va., Ed Fleming, the son-in-law said authorities told him Crossfield's body was found in the plane.
Searchers found the crumpled plane shortly after 1 p.m. in the mountains near Ranger, Ga., about 50 miles northwest of Atlanta, a Civil Air Patrol spokeswoman said.

Sorry to hear this. I had a chance to visit with him one Sunday morning at War Eagles in Santa Teresa, NM. He told me about the guys who thought they had gone supersonic during the war. He described his experiences flying the NACA Mustang and how hew could see the shock wave out on the wingtip but get never get through the transonic range.
I, in turn was priviledged to give him a tour of their A-26 and the capabilities of it. He didn't have any experience with it. He seemed to be a nice guy and pretty genuine.
