Shame to see another CAF aircraft being let go, especially a fighter. I thought their goal was to acquire an example of each aircraft that flew in WWII? I guess they are now just focusing on American WWII aircraft?

It is not a CAF airplane.

Ah, okay my bad then. I'm sure you can understand the confusion given that it's listed under the main CAF website and the SoCal's site. I know many member owned aircraft have been labeled as such, but I guess this one was never. Any idea as to why?

It's interesting, I've seen CAF make note that it's owned by one of their members, but not a CAF aircraft. The registration shows Steve Barber, but I don't think it's his own plane either? Weird...

Just an observation, but the two letters in the registration are SB, so maybe it is his?

The FAA registry shows it as co-owned by Steve Barber and William Montague.

William "Bill" Montague died last September.

Lots of confusion even the CAF website lists the Yak as a CAF bird

Is this a real (as in real old) aircraft or one of the more modern replicas made from the original dies but with an American engine?

There are no original WWII-era produced Yak-3's flying. It is one of the new production Yak-3's that was manufactured by Yakovlev in the early 1990's (one of the 12 Yak-3's and 10 Yak-9's so produced).
