re: f-14 tomcat's retirement

with the advent of the retirement of the grumman f-14 tomcat after 33 years of stellar service it is a no brainer that some examples will go to worthy museums, others will train mechanics & technitions, & yes maybe some will be turned into drones 
(what an ignominious ending) my point is that with the state of current affairs in the world, especially in the mideast i hope that the department of defense (dod) has the foresight to cocoon & mothball a quantity of f-14's at davis monathan airforce base's storage facility in the possible case of a military emergency. the same scenario proved true during the 1st gulf war when the dod retired the sr 71 & then pulled a few out of mothballs for use over iraq. it is my opinion that this only prudent thinking, will save big $$$$ in the long run, & we will have access to a proven military asset if the need arises with the snap of a finger.

Unfortunately, Tom, you would probably be wrong that someone has thought far enough ahead to keep a couple of squadrons worth in war reserve. The best aircraft are the ones that they are retiring now. Most are going to museums in flyable condition, I think only a few are actually going to AMARC.

i hope the dod at least keeps a tight lid on the parts removed / demiltarized from the f-14's & keeps account of them, as iran is supposed to be still operating the type since 1976, & as of lately they are a worse threat than north korea. iran would love to get their hands on those spares. how hypocritical of iran......to them, we as americans are yankee capitalist pigs, infidels, & other rhetorical

Trus, the USN could probably make a lot of money selling off the parts for -14's
