Seems rather glib to call it "minor", as the radiator/oil cooler is no doubt a bit flat at minimum, but the pilot is perfectly fine, and the aircraft will be repaired. No word yet on what happened.

Those asking on Facebook whether it is repairable or not must not know what this project originally started with/the fact that it is a recent all newly-manufactured airframe. I suspect we will see this aircraft flying again by next year and I hope that is the case (all it takes is money).

My Aeronca is flying with a reproduction dataplate as the original was lost sometime in it's pre-Dan history. So what does that make it? I also used to fly a Twin Otter built from twenty-six different airplanes and with a hand-built cockpit, but I'm pretty sure it was still a Twin Otter.

The whole dataplate restoration argument is kinda silly to me. If it essentially conforms to the airplane's design, it's a Spitfire, or a Hurricane, or a Thunderbolt. Exactly what is the definition of original? As soon as you change the tailwheel tire or machine a replacement spacer for it it's no longer original.

Sad to hear the Hurri got bent but happily the pilot didn't. Fixing it will allow a few people to feed their families for a couple of months.

Nicely said Dan. By the other side's logic, the FAA/whomever would have a lot of explaining to do regarding that Twin Otter!

I missed all the excitement, I just followed the link only to see "This post has been removed or could not be loaded." Given their scarcity it's always said to see a Hurricane experience an incident, I'm glad to read it was relatively minor and that the pilot is okay

Looking at the photo of the incident its obvious that the flaps are down and the gear is up.
You have to question the designer's train of thought when they had the bright idea that one lever could control two systems, one which is raised after landing but the other you definitely want to stay down.

My opinon would be a groundloop. If you look closely, the Starboard main landing gear had folded outwards, much like a Spitfire or 109. It wouldn't surprise me if there could be damage to the pivot mechanism and wing structure.

The dataplate doesn't necessarily need to survive. Channels exists that allow for it to also be recreated legally.

The owner’s website confirms a ground loop, unfortunately. Classic case of a very light crosswind from the right, exacerbating a Merlin powered aircraft's tendency to drift right as It slows, together with the increased ground speed and energy due to lack of headwind.

My experience of the Hurricane is that, although it is a very straightforward aircraft to fly, it has a few wrinkles that need to be well understood.

As has been mentioned, the notorious “H gate” gear/flap selector requires rigid discipline in identifying the correct slot before activating the lever.

On making the flare to land, most Hurricanes become nose heavy as the throttle is closed, just as the elevators start to lose effectiveness, and most first solos (mine included!) lead to bounce and recovery. The solution is either to leave a trickle of power on until after touchdown, or, with practice a more pronounced pull on the stick as the throttle is closed will do the trick.

Finally, once the flare is mastered, and the aircraft is on the ground, initially it will run straight without too much input. However, like all good taildraggers, keep pedalling right down to walking pace, as any swing will tend to develop at the end of the landing run, below 30-40kts, with a sharp brake application often being the only thing between you and the scenario which we are discussing in this thread.
