No. That was the Nicholas Cage movie about the INDIANAPOLIS.

Pretty sure the PBYs in Greyhound were CGI.

As far as CGI goes, Greyhound is one of the better, more realistic Hollywood war movies.

No and anyway why blame a movie for a lost a/c?
Did it land if off the beach and damage it? Did it wreck
it the rest of the way trying to salvage it? That must have
been a helluva movie to have those powers!

Jack, it was the movie and the pilot's fault. Directors, photographers and videographers (and others) routinely ask pilots to do stuff they shouldn't do. Either it's too risky, too hard on the aircraft, against the FAA regs, too close to the crowd line, etc. The pilot's should have had some agreement and parameters. What the heck were they doing landing in saltwater? COuldn't they have used CGI or landed on freshwater, there are plenty of freshwater lakes in Florida. Why weeren't the pilot supervising the recovery of the damaged airplane?

I read somewhere that they were supposed to have a Sunderland as one of the patrol aircraft instead of a Catalina on both sides of the 'Air Gap', but was later changed to what you see.

Personally I'm tickled pink by the subtle nod to the past by the technical advisor with the Canadian Corvette 'HMCS Dodge', codenamed "Dicky".
They used the pennant number 'K136' on the cgi model, which was originally worn by HMCS Shawinigan.
She was lost with her entire crew (my great-uncle being among them) on November 24, 1944 when she was torpedoed by U-1228 in the Cabot Strait.
The technical advisor had served aboard the 'new' HMCS Shawinigan (MM704) and was well aware of her namesake's wartime history.

That is pretty cool.

I was pleasantly surprised with this movie, especially being a Navy Surface Warfare Officer and former merchant mariner. It is interesting how much better/more realistic ships look when giving the CGI treatment vs airplanes. The CGI on Greyhound was so far superior to the ridiculousness of Midway.

I actually enjoyed it.Little bit World of Warships but not much..Needed a bit more cat and mouse to prolong it and give the action a bit more bite..Yes definitely better than Midway in CGI....Didnt like the Grey Wolf too much but if its in the book .....A Sunderland would have been better at the start that the Cat..
