Just out of curiosity, what are the current drones being shot at/down? F-4's? F-16's?

F-16s are currently used, unmanned since Setember 2013:

I believe the last QF-4 targets were late 2016 out of Tyndall, and finally Holloman. Navy QF-4's retired a few years earlier. As Andy pointed out QF-16's now. Wonder if the Navy has considered QF-18's? lots of A-D models in the Boneyard, but most quite tired.

Long line of QF-102's, 100's, 106's and F-4's and a few others in smaller numbers over the years.

Was that last group of Phantoms that were appearing at airshows a few years ago all shot down, or were any preserved?

Nice to see these F-100s being made available; hope someone can get at least one back in the air. Scott, can you get permission to use the auction images for the Registry? Neither 56-3842/N417FS nor 56-3996/N418FS has any photos, and the last info on both is from 1992.

I have a not particularly great shot of N404FS taken at Mojave in 1984 that you are welcome to have for the registry Scott. I note that while you do have pics of the airplane none of them are in the Flight Systems scheme. It's yours if you want it.

One of the problems with making up QF/A-18’s from the boneyard jets, is putting together enough flyable parts. Couple of the squadrons currently flying the oldest ones had to go on a US wide scavenger hunt for some parts that were no longer available. Nose gear doors are a good example. Every one of the older jets in the boneyard and in museums have had their doors scavenged for flyable parts. Even the older F-16’s are running into the same problem, and it’s still in production.
