Make sure the landing area is clear....

There has to be a story behind this....

I'm guessing fog or night landing, probably during and emergency. Because how do you not notice a Jagdpanther in the landing area!

In the pilot's defense, the Jagdpanther is camouflaged.

C-47?

A C-47 of the 442nd Troop Carrier Group that was shot down by German flak over Eindhoven on September 17, 1944. What would have otherwise very likely been a successful forced landing, the aircraft struck what was the only obstacle in the field, a Jagdpanther that had been disabled during the fighting about a week prior.

In a similar way, I'm pretty sure I've seen a picture of a Mosquito that had an equally abrupt coming together with a steamroller.

Having stood in some spots on a few WW2 battlefields (both ETO and PTO) in the past, I'd love to know what this location looks like today. Row houses? Still a field? Maybe a marker for the crash?
