I didn't see the silent auction bid sheet for an F-117 airframe. I've got a place in the front yard that would be just perfect for it.

And you most likely never will see one up for any type of auction. Lots of stuff on those airframes that remains highly classified to this day. That's why all the airframes are held in storage. The only way known to completely destroy all the classified stuff, at this time, is incineration and it produces some highly toxic residue.

It was a joke.

I've read a article explaining they were engaged in stripping off all the nasty stuff prior to display. In my front yard.

I knew it was a joke, but I've seen stuff lifted from here and other sites that was taken way out of context and really started the rumor mill.

It looks like one of those which has recently been slated for museum display. Within the last couple years there has been at least five museums that have received F-117's on loan for display, including the Palm Springs Air Museum and the Kalamazoo Air Zoo. As part of the demilitarization process, the black exterior radar-absorbent material of course had to be removed.

Here are a couple photos from June, showing some of the progress that the Kalamazoo Air Zoo has been making with theirs, fabricating the missing parts (originals kept by military) and getting some black paint on it:

They still fly one or two of them out of Groom as Agressors or to test stuff against them.

I took a few shots from of the pictured F-117 at the Strategic Air Command Museum. I think I was last there in 2003.
