WWII Navy paint specification P-27 needed

Fri Jul 22, 2022 4:15 pm

Hello WIX brain trust,

I am in need of a copy of the US Navy paint specification P-27 Primer. It has also been referred to NAF P-27 and NAS P-27. It deals with zinc chromate primer. This specification was replaced by AN TT-P-656 which I have but I need the earlier spec. I am trying to identify exactly what P-27B-2 is.

Any ideas where to find it. Tried Aircorps Library and no luck. Also can't find my Monogram paint books for the 1941 time period to see if it has anything. I need a copy of the original doc and not an interpretation of it.

I really appreciate any help on this. Thanks in advance, Taigh

Hi Taigh,

The original Navy P-27 spec, issued in 1918, was for steel bars. There was a P-27A as an ammendment to that spec.

I'll be working Record Group 72 (BuAer) in September for my monograph on US primers, interior colors, and anti-glare colors. If you don't have a copy by then, I'll send you a copy when I get it scanned.

Cheers,

Dana
