Grand tour New Zealand, North Island.

Sat Aug 06, 2022 7:21 am

Bit of a bucket list tour of as many warbird/aviation related sites of New Zealand
Decided to devide this up and no better way of doing this than dividing between
the north and south islands.

First stop Auckland War memorials Spitfire and Zero.

Popped down to Thames to see an old mate, never knew it, a place Keith Park had
spent some time. A great full scale replica of a Hawker Hurricane.

In town a bronze of the great man.

Lovely photographs and it saves us money travelling to these far away places. I remembered a V1 at the Auckland War Memorial that looked a bit dodgy the last time I was on holiday there years ago. Thanks :drink3:

Most grateful to Peter of Classic Flyers who got me in a few hangers
to have a look at some of the airworthy machines.

This Harvard was in her original 1970's RNZAF trainer scheme.

I hope you went to MOTAT. There is a treasure trove of warbirds in New Zealand.

He wanted to, but sadly the Aviation section is closed for several months while major roading and approach changes happen. Reopens weekend after next.

They re-arrange the aviation hall quite often, although not so much the Sunderland and Solent!
But yes I was thinking I should make a visit later this month and give everyone an up-to-date overview to go with Warbirdnutta's fine work.
