B-23 with Turbos

I ran across this item that I saved as a screenshot from a Kindle book several years ago. Unfortunately, I don’t remember which book it came from.

Those gear doors look like wooden rowing boats! Interesting modification, I have a book somewhere about GE and their work in developing (turbo)superchargers, but I cannot remember seeing anything about this airframe in there. Must dig it out to check...

You might be thinking of Seven Decades of Progress. It's GE Aerospace's company history. It was updated once, the first word in the title going from Seven to Eight. However, I don't think this was the book it came from, especially given that Larry said this was from a Kindle edition and Eight Decades of Progress was published in 1990.

My best guess, given the detailed caption, is that the picture is from The Douglas B-18 and B-23: America's Forsaken Warriors by Dan Hagedorn Sr. and Dan Hagedorn Jr.

I did a little thinking and realized that the picture came from this excellent book

That's the one, I've got the Eight Decades... version thanks to a friendly GE rep.

Thanks for posting those screenshots Larry! Interesting conversion and story, it's the first time I've heard of this particular bit of turbocharger testing.
