The Battle of Midway ship wrecks ...

Sun Sep 17, 2023 6:06 pm

For those who either watched for hours (like I did) or just watched some of the recent footage. Here's a much better condensed video that shows some great footage. Ans some really nice narration from a few of the folks involved. It was nice they added their commentary as they did.

There is an extended cut of the Yorktown exploration, and...

...there's still a plane aboard. Someone called it out but others said "nah, that can't be"... well, I took a screenshot at 15:40 and enhanced it in Photoshop.

It appears to be a folded TBD wing.

It's also possible it was one of the spare outboard TBD wings that was in the rafters, but I know BuNo 0333 was still aboard on the morning of 7 June, because the salvage crews were trying to jettison it (there's a well known photo of that). I don't know if they ever got it off the ship, though. Look just right of center in this enhanced screenshot:

You can see the large prewar style insignia.

Y'all are gonna have to excuse me for getting a tad bit emotional/excited about this... that ship means a lot to our family, as my grandfather helped lay her decks as an apprentice at Newport News Shipbuilding.

Cannot see it Lynn....

I am color blind and the shades look the same to me.

Can you make an outline of it?

Cheers!

Edit...ok looked at the video....impressive! Tks for sharing.....
