The Akron airdock, (former?) home of the Goodyear blimp, is on fire.

Looks like the fire is out thankfully... but it burned up 1 acre!!! of the roof. Just goes to show how enormous the building is. Apparently LMT was renovating the building for construction of a new military airship for surveillance operations!

First I'd heard of that project.

Hope that everyone came out safe.

The firefighters are still spraying it down as we speak. I just got home from school and haven't heard any new details.

due to the shape of the structure the firemen had a hell of a time getting it under control. the thing is 7 foot ball fields long, the wind was whipping up & they barely had a ladder to reach the trouble spots. from the local news video it almost looked like a brush fire with the flames in a long line rather than a mass. thank god it was contained. that hangar is an aviation icon here, virtually unreplaceable!!!

Ya should have seen the Tillamook hanger burn with all the hay & straw inside. It burned for at least a week!

I was at the local news radio station for a speaking engagement this morning and they told me that there was no structural damage or injuries. This is also the second fire since they started renovating the building for the new military project. I guess the weather and the structure made this one very hard to contain.
