Hello,
The attached photo is the remains of an aircraft instrument found at a crash site of a Howard DGA. Does anyone know what this is?
Thanks in advance!

Not the best photo, hard to see details or judge size...
and knowing the eta of the crash would help in knowing if it had original or modern instruments and avionics.

But a wild guess because of the wire: an electric motor ...the DGAs had electric flaps and rudder trim,
or a trailing wire antenna.
The Navy Howards were often instrument trainers, so they would have been better equipped than most general aviation types.

I don't think it is a motor as it doesn't seem to have the bearings or armature a motor would have . A trailing wire antenna is a possibility. For size reference the object in the lower left is a shoe heel.
