G4M3 Betty Bomber Tail T2-2205

Does anyone know if this Betty nose section is still in storage at the Garber facility? I remember seeing it when I toured the facility when I was a kid.

The cockpit area in front of the wings still exists and is in storage, I believe at Garber. Also in storage is the very rear piece of the tail (behind the tail surfaces. I would guess that there are other bits a pieces of this airplane (engines?).

With the "Ohka" that was previously next to the "Irving" on the UH floor now moved to the WWII gallery on the mall, there is space for another Japanese fuselage (or the Betty nose?) to be installed. Perhaps the "Frances" fuselage, which is I think display-worthy as is.

There are going to be a lot of movements in the next two years with four new bays been added to the north (Modern Aviation) and of the UH main hangar. There is a lot going on in the Mary Baker Engen restoration hangar. Four aircraft are currently in restoration / conservation right now, going north to south: B-26 "Flak Bait", Sikorsky JRS, Lincoln-Standard biplane and Mong Reno-racing biplane.

Great pictures! It's a shame the entire plane wasn't saved. I remember reading that in the rush to get the collection out of the old production plant in Illinois, the Betty was broken up. Paul Garber saved what he could.

And there's a Tabby in that last photo. Do any survive?

Is that nose section 2205 off of that Betty sitting on it's gear? The reason I ask is that the paint looks different, although that doesn't mean a lot. It's a shame they didn't save one of those white painted Bettys you see carrying Japanese officials after the war.

Looking at the interior shots it seems to have a lot of hydraulic lines. They don't look like electrical bundles.

Ouch. Looks like more vegetation than Tabby.
