Robert F. Davis, Ball Turret Gunner, 8th Air Force (pic)

Thu May 25, 2006 12:32 pm

Hey Guys,

I found a really cool original photo on ebay recently and would like to research the person pictured. The photo is an original and was apparently taken out of an album (the seller had similar photos of other crew members). Being a ball turret "nut" I fell in love with the detailed turret art which says, "I'm the best gunner in the world...all I need is some practice." Apparently the gunner must've also had the nickname of "Shorty" which would make sense given his confined duty. The back of the picture has written, "S/SGT Robert F. Davis, 388th B.G."

My question is this...what would be the best avenue to research this person? I have already placed a thread in the 388th Bomb Group section of the Army Air Forces forum and have yet to receive any replies. I would like to know what squadron he flew with, number of missions and plane name/number. If anybody out there can point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!!

John
