Wow! Thx so much for posting those. They're obviously from his 'homecoming' at NAS Alameda in 1945.

Did Boyington do anymore flying in the Marine Corps after returning home?

I consulted my copy of Baa Baa Black Sheep, and Boyington doesn't mention any miltary flying after he was repatriated.

He writes that the Medical Department of the Navy recommended that he be retired "because of injuries received during the war", and then he insinuates that the Marine Corps didn't want him back.

(p. 362, 1977 Bantam paperback edition)

You'd be better off getting your info from a comic book!

He was medically retired not because off any injuries because he was embarassing the Corps and was becoming, once again, (has in his pre-AVG days) a royal pain in the *ss.
He was so healthy after being released from POW camp that he passed a flight physical within weeks and was advised to lose a couple lbs!!
