Shuttleworth Military Display (the main event) – lots of pic

Sun Jun 04, 2006 5:17 pm

Well after the excitement of the Royal Navy flypast it was a superb show in some lovely weather (a bit grey but not too much to complain about)

The BBMF excelled with the Lanc display, the other highlight being a rather prolonged hop by the Bleriot.

A cracking day was had by all!

Nick,

Great photos as always. And Shuttleworth...where else do you see these types.

Cheers,

Ron

You're really rather good at this piccie-taking thing, aren't you. :)

Fan-bleedin'-tastic photos... both these and the RNHF pics on the FlyPast board are simply awesome.

Well done!

Lynn

I always enjoy your photography, Nick! The P-40 and Lancaster shots are my favorites in this batch but they're all excellent. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.

Someone needs to tell the P-40 owner that by the time the star and bar came into use the U.S. ARMY, on the bottom of the wings, was done away with.

Also, there is suppose to be a period after the U and after the S.

Thanks chaps

Dik, the owner bought it in those colours, I'm sure when its resprayed it'll be in the correct colours (I vote for RAF 112 Sqn desert colours)

Great shots Nick!

The 'U.S. ARMY' was omitted from newly built aircraft in mid 1942. However, there was no official order that the markings be removed from aircraft already in service and they could still be seen on some aircraft as late as 1945, albeit mostly training aircraft.

There are photos of 343rd FG P-40s with stars and bars as well as the 'U.S. ARMY', so the presence of both of these markings is quite plausible.
