Pilot killed in jet crash at Ottawa air show

Fri Jun 16, 2006 4:01 pm

I just heard on the news that Scott Manning of Toronto was killed today when
his BD-5 Stinger Microject crashed at the Carp airport west of Ottawa.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

I was at the Carp airport today when it happened, but I didn not see it happen. The airport was closed immediately afterwards (~12:15 PM). Around 5 PM when the investigators arrived on site it was announced that it would remained closed for another 3 hours. Everyone went home. Just as well since it was not a happy day anyway.

The show goes on tomorrow and I would expect starts with a mass arrival of airframes from Gatineau and Uplands in the morning.

A very good friend of mine was lucky to get a ride from Montreal to Ottawa in a local Stearman that will be displayed in the show.

When they arrived they where directed to a hangar where Julie Clark's T34 & the BD-5 where hangared.

My buddy was was very curious about the BD-5 and meet the pilot whom took a couple of minutes to show him his plane.

He shook hands with the pilot owner and left to fly back to Montreal.

Small world we live in..........
