Intrepid in the spring!

Sun Jun 18, 2006 9:18 pm

Just a couple of shots from UNDER the tent on the deck of the Intrepid from last March. Can't wait to see the Crusaider in new paint. And what's up with the Cougar finally?! Any one been downtown since March?

I was there in mid May, and both the Cougar and the Crusader looked the exact same as in your pictures.

I heard that an Akron firm that did some spacecraft restoration in the past has a contract to restore a few of the Intrepid aircraft. They cleaned up the Concorde a bit last year and they are working on the UH-1A Huey now and I believe the Huey Cobra is next in line. If all works well they may get a contract to restore all aircraft for the Intrepid.

Cougar On Intrepid

Fri Jun 23, 2006 11:28 am

I was at the Intrepid a few months ago and peeked under the tent. The Cougar was one I know quite well and helped me get started into Warbirds. It was located in Wall Township NJ at what is still called the Airplane Park. We used to play in and on it while I was growing up.

It was removed when I was in college as it was becoming run down and there were sharp corners and wires that I guess were a liability. I know a paint scheme was chosen when the restoration is completed as there is a picture of what it will look like in the tent next to the aircraft.

I couldn't see that when I was there. Too bad as I( and I'm sure everyone else!) would like to know!
