Man does that suck, Hope Mr. Greenwood is ok and we still see him and his Spit at Thunder.

This is the first incident with the Spit that I have heard about while Mr. Greenwood has owned it. Is that the case? I'd say he has a pretty darn good track record with the old girl.

Says damage is minor in any case so shouldn't be too hard to fix

Re. the note on June 19: I made a normal 3 pt. landing, rolled straight for a few seconds, then the tail suddenly jumped to the right. I corrected back, but then the nose again swung to the left. This time it did not respond to either rudder or brake correction, very surprising as the Spit normally handles very well on landing. The ATIS gave the wind as only 6 knots at 50 degrees, which should barely be noticeable. I didn't really ground loop, but did leave the left side of the runway onto the grass before the taxiway. It stopped without hitting anything, luckily. no one hurt, no prop damage. There were tire tracks for the left main, none for the right. A video shows full right rudder while still going left. Shop found main gear ok, a small leak in the right brake, and thinks the trouble is in the tailwheel strut, which they will reseal. thanks, Bill Greenwood

For Mark Morris: Spitfires have 3 top things! A beautiful wing that flys good fast or slow, a powerful and great sounding Merlin engine, and no nerdy computers. I did a taxi test with the Spitfire this morning and it seems okay, guess we will know after a flight in the morning. Thanks Bill

I flew the Spitfire to the shop to get a more through inspection as well as normal oil change and service before going to Oshkosh. The gear seemed to work normally, and this landing stayed on the runway. I did have 11 knots of crosswind at 30 degrees. We found a bolt in the main gear support needs replacing as per the CAA bulletin 1999-007, and some repairs needed at the tailwheel mounts. The engine oil filters were clean, so good news there. Bill
