Replica .50 cal Dealers

Wed Jun 28, 2006 2:36 pm

I've been looking into acquiring some replica twin .50 cals for my turret project and was just curious if any of you have any suggestions on which dealer/company to go with. I don't want to go with a cheap resin replica and would like something that at least charges. I noticed Jay Wisler has custom made .50 cals for about $895 each...has anybody ordered one of his? I've seen some that have all original parts, and still meet BATF guidelines, that run over $3,000 a piece!

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!!

Tom,

I've done business with Jay in the past and agree with you 100%. I was just curious about the quality & detail of his replica .50 cals he has for sale on his website, since he doesn't have pics.

john, you may have to do some web searching, but if i remember correctly there was an ohio based maker of repro 50's named "irac" or "iroc" reproductions, or gun reproductions or something like that. it will take some investigating & hit s & misses. not exactly sure of the name, but it's close. let me know if you hit pay dirt!! good luck

1 more thing john.... i've seen examples in military trader magazine & militaria international magazine. they look good from the pics. also try to contact these publications, they can help steer you on the right course.

Thanks Tom,

I've been on the IRAC site and it does have some nice examples, although they would have to be custom made for the turret application.

I'll be doing a lot of reaearch before I start shelling out nearly $1,000 each for twin .50's.

Build a pair of replicas yourself mate - a member of the Museum has....and powered it by propane - the barrel is machined exactly as the original so the harmonics sound exactly like a real .50 - once he tinkered with the regulator and rpm pcb - imagine two of them cooking off in your ball turret- that'd be a real crowd puller and of course, relative  safe!

Take a look at American Aero's site. Gary has posted a video of the Collings halftrack with the quad .50's firing propane.
