Doc Update

I was hoping this would be information I could have gotten myself, but prolonged sickness has prevented me from doing much warbird-wise.

Doc to be on public display in September

If I'm lucky, I might get some pictures before then. If I'm not, then ya'll get some in September...which is still lucky, I guess.

Thanks for posting that article it's been awhile since any new progress on Doc was reported. Is it true this is the last B-29 that can be restored to flying status as reorted in the article?

Kermit Weeks has at least one that could be restored to airworthy condition.

Actually, we have been working with the Doc folks for a couple of years now. I have personally seen to it that they got multiple landing gear braces from our surplus, along with several other smaller items. They, in turn have sent us some very nicely done placards for the B-29, along with other little odds and ends and have been a nice group to work with. We are currently talking with Tony Mazolini to try to get Doc some more vital parts that they need, including engines. I wish them the best of luck. They are doing nice work.

I suspect several B-29 airframes could be made airworthy if substantial resources were invested. But since most of the remaining airframes are on museum display, the likelihood of one of those being made airworthy is very low.

I also suspect the airshow market can really only support 2 flying examples at any given time. The tremendous operating expenses and maintenance of these birds would be prohibitive to most organizations. It'll be interesting to see both Fifi and Doc touring the circuit. Hopefully there are enough airshows with deep pockets to support both planes.
