Storm damage at Wright Patterson AFB

Fri Aug 04, 2006 12:37 pm

I just heard on the news that storms yesterday were strong enough to move some planes around at Wright Patterson AFB. I wonder if any planes at the museum sustained any damage?

A C-17 got spun around off the tarmac and into the grass.

Just back from a monster trip to Wright Pat and Thunder and other places as well. We were actually at the Museum on Thursday when the storm blew in and hit the museum building as well as the surrounding area. A number of trees were blown down, in storm that lasted a matter of minutes. A couple of holes were also made in the roof of the new Cold war hanger.
The NMUSAF latest exhibt the C141 Starlifter "Hanoi Express" ( which was parked in front of the museums restoration facility on the base itself, was blown around on actually landed on a adjacent generator, punching a hole in the fuselage . It had to be jacked up and the generator was pulled out.
This damage may delay the moving of the aircraft to museum site, as it was scheduled for this week.
