Bob Diemert and the "Defender"

Mon Aug 28, 2006 2:09 am

I finally got to see a copy of the documentary featuring Bob Diemert and the plane he was developing to save Canada from invasion, the"Defender"I have been searching for years to see this and it was everything that I had hoped for! WOW! Boeing and General Dynamics must be sweating bullets. To see him and his electronics wizard at work developing their own airfoils with only a pickup truck and a couple of precision bathroom scales is truely awe inspiring! it also shows him "Restoring" his Zero for the C.A.F..The fact that this plane actually flew is truely amazing. This film is a must see for all!
But all kidding aside you gotta hand it to him for having the idea of recovering Japanese aircraft from the Pacific and then actually doing it is most incredible.and no matter how badly it was done, the Zero actually flew!

My favourite aircraft was his Lancaster Merlin powered 6-7 seat Firefly CF-CBH.

It makes you wonder where they got the idea for the "Red Green" show.

Comparing it to that show I think I may brake down and order it.
