Battle of Britain Salute, Canadian Style

Mon Sep 18, 2006 9:11 pm

Well, it was a great weekend in Ottawa as Vintage Wings of Canada, Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, Ed Russell Group and the Canadian Armed Forces assembled a Battle of Britain Salute never before seen in Canada.

WIX was well represented by Mike Henninger, Olivier Lacombe, Rob Gilman and myself.

I was extremely privileged to be able to shoot A2A the formation consisting of the Lancaster, Spitfire, P-51 Mustang and two Hurricanes. Photoplane pilots, Olivier and Leon Evans did an outstanding job putting John Baert and myself in the right places to shoot the much faster formation.

It was a great time had by all.

For a view into our weekend I have posted three pages of images at

That has to be the all-time nicest warbird thing to appear in Canadian skies, ever.

Or I should say -- so far! Let's all hope to see that equalled and trumped repeatedly in future years, thanks to the continuing efforts of Messrs Potter and Russell and the CWH.

Thanks for letting us experience it vicariously Eric.

Thanks everyone. It sure was a blast and I’m still on a high from the weekend. The crews were all great and we had a lot of fun.
