WJ288 flies again!

Mon Oct 02, 2006 5:35 pm

After waiting three and a half years for an engine, Sea Fury WJ288 (based out of Memphis) is airborne once again. I spent the last week or so installing the engine and getting the airplane all "annualed up." These pictures aren't that great, but that's not really what I was asked to be there for.

Good news! Thanks for the update Gary.

I well remember this one (as G-SALY) sitting in TFC's hangar at Duxford for a while before it moved to the US. A previous owner had tried installing a transport Centaurus from a Beverley, but in the event it never flew in that configuration.

Great to see another Sea Fury back in the air again.

Great looking a/c. Just curious why the WJ288 is inverted on the underside of one wing? purpose?

Congrats to all involved!

Four blades or five, doesn't matter, it's turning the wrong way to be a Bristol. Looks good none the less.

Where did this Sea Fury end up at? I last remember it last
at the 2000 Reno Air Races and after that, somebody else
brought it??

TIA,

Lynn
