Went and saw Flags of our Fathers....

I'd give it 9 out of 10. It was a very good movie about a very interesting subject. I was hoping it would be more about the battle that was fought on Iwo Jima, rather than the bond tour and problems of the guys that survived to come home. I kind of figured that would be the case seeing as the book was about that very subject, but I was hoping the movie might be something different.

A lot of it was told through flashbacks. I don't like that because it ruins the flow of things.

Go see it if you haven't. I don't think I'd pay to see it again or buy it on DVD though.

Maybe now they'll make a movie out of James Bradley's second book, "Flyboys". I'd love for somebody to show the Japanese for the murdering savages that they were.

Yeah, I saw it on Friday Brad. As you say, pretty good. A bit on the bloody side, one notch up from the likes of 'Private Ryan' in that respect - the entrails and severed heads were more than my wife could stomach so she left after about half an hour.

A good story well told, but as Brad said, don't expect the film to be the story of the battle for Iwo Jima. It tells the stories of the troops involved in the famous 'flag raising' photo (as well as the original flag raising on Iwo Jima, you need to read the book or see the movie for the story behing that one), and what happened to them afterwards.

Well worth seeing.

My son and I saw the movie last night.

Very well done. I didn't get the sense of the super Hollywood over done treatment that most history gets.

The cockpit shots when they were strafing Suribachi were very cool.

Make sure you stay for the credits..great photo essay.

I commend Mr's Eastwood and Spielberg for doing this one right.

I also saw it and was impressed by the great computer graphics showing the huge fleet of ships off the invasion beaches. They even had the USS West Virginia firing its 14" guns! Very cool. I was wondering which Corsairs were real if any and which were computer graphics. All in all a pretty good movie.

I don't know if this makes sense but the movie was good but I really liked the story. I wasn't familiar with the story behind the flag photo and how those guys were used a poster boys for bond drives so it gave a different perspective of the war and how they were affected by events.

The movie itself was pretty good but the jumping around the three time frames was a bit disjointed and there was some jerky filming during the battle scenes which was a bit difficult to watch. Other than that it was well acted and I think they did a pretty good job of capturing the essence of the battle and the period.

Its definitely one of those movies you need to see on the big screen with surround sound, I don't think DVD will capture the magnitude of the scenes.

I went to an advance screening of the movie about a week before it was out and surprised to see allot of vets at the movie. It would have been interesting to hear their take on the movie.
