Status of restorations at the Natl Museum of the USAF

I received my fall issue of the Friends Journal from the museum today and in it there is an update of the current restoartion projects. The RF-84K and the X-45A are finished and are now on display in the Cold War Gallery. Both the Kawanishi "George" and the XP-75A "Eagle" are nearing completion and should go on display in the spring. The Mig 29 is now in restoration but the principal efforts will now be directed to the B-17 Memphis Belle. Most of the restoration staff will be focused on this most famous of B-17's. As the plane is stripped of paint more and more problems are found in the form of corrosion. No timetable for the Belle was given but as stated before most likely it will be quite a long time.

I have heard for awhile now that RF-84K has been on display. I was at the Museum Saturday and Sunday for portions of the days and still haven't seen it. Anyone here seen it?

Was at the museum a few weeks ago and the RF-84K was on display in the Cold War Hanger. It is positioned behind the B-36 and just about under the Duck.

I just got back from the museum. The RF-84K is indeed on display in the cold war gallery. She's sitting beside the Albatross, across from the WB-50. The staff did a fantastic job....she looks brand new!
I would assume the X-45 is at the annex, since that's where all the other X-planes are. I didn't have time to go over and check.

The X-45 is under the tail of the B-2.

She should they went through 3 other RF-84Ks to make look that way.

Where is their storage at?

Do they plan on restoring them after the Memphis Belle?

I'm not sure just where the storage area(s) are. From what I know about things at the museum, I have not heard of any plans on displaying any of the aforementioned aircraft within the foreseeable future basically because of the lack of room. The museum does answer such questions on their website if anyone is so inclined to ask. www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/blog/index.asp I did ask the museum a couple of months ago for a list of the planes they have in storage but they declined to do this for me.

Where is their storage at?

In the Hangers adjacent to the restoration hangers. They used to keep the HE 111 in the Annex behind some faux walls. You could still see the green house cockpit over the tops of the wall. It always intrigued me as a young child, wondering what it was. One day I got a real treat when, for whatever reason they towed it out and parked it outside for a few days. She was wingless but still awesome to look at. I had never seen anything like it at the time.

I went over the restoration facility this weekend to take pictures of F-4D 66-7554, 2 Mig 17 Kills. They have recieved more upper portions of the fuselage of the XC-99. Not all of it looking too great....alot of work ahead of them. Seem to be some damage around the cockpit area. Idon't know when or where it was caused. The last time I saw the XC-99 was back in 1994 down at Kelly and that was off in the distance. Still looked big even next to the C-5s
