which morotai based b-24 bomb group was nicknamed the "long rangers"??? somebody mentioned on another thread about b-29's on morotai, but i balked at that because of the past research i've done re: my old man serving on the island & i'd never heard of them being their. truth?? fiction?? never got an answer....

WOW!!---------that is a great shot of Hedy Lamarr on the nose of that P-38. She is without a doubt one of the most beautiful women that have ever lived! If you are not familiar with her------Google her name and check out some of her photos. Remember, this was in the forties so you are not going to see bikini shots with her boobs falling out. She just had pure, natural beauty!

thanks jack, the reason i asked is because a guy from bratenal ohio was a b-24 pilot based at morotai & wrote a book about the long rangers flying out of their. the book was entitled "morotai"... written in the early 90's. a book i kept!!! i thought it was cool when he mentioned the dog faces protecting the airbase perimeter as there were plenty of japanese fanatical hold outs, my dad's rifle company among those protecting the air forces & cleaning out the enemy!!

Regarding your comment about boobs & bikinis & Ms Lamar,

As student of film, I feel I must point out that on at least one occasion, Ms Lamar showed more than a little skin...

I am not sure that the web site's claim of the "first nude scene in cinematic history" is actually correct. However, having seen that film, it is relatively tastefully done (she is swimming au natural) and was definitely risque for it's time.

I believe that's the first picture I've seen of a solid nose photo recon B-24. Does anyone have any information on this aircraft?

Are you sure it's a photo-recon B-24?
I thought it was a C-109 Tansport.

The C-109 was a tanker conversion, they took exsisting B-24J's and L's and converted them to tankers.

The transport version was the C-87.

Not that I can tell the difference between the B-24, C-109, or the C-87 at a glance.

More on Hedy Lamarr, I've been waiting to see if anyone was going to post anything about the torpedo guidance sysytem she jointly developed with a co-inventor and had patented. She not only had looks but brains too. I know she spent her part of her later life here in South Texas (Houston & Galveston) during the earlier sixties. My Mother worked for Sears Roebuck in those days and she had her as customer a couple of times buying cosmetics and such....I never got a chance to she her though. I was young dumb and full of ....well nuff said, but it would have been a big deposite in the memory bank if I did.

Thanks for posting that information about Hedy and the torpedo guidance system. I had seen that information, but forgot to mention it. Yes, she was definitely quite a woman.
