alligators in new york sewers...... yes aviation related!!

Sun Oct 29, 2006 8:03 pm

was reading general aviation news & found some interesting trivia..... alligators supposedly got into new york sewers via an eastern airlines dc-2 that crashed inbound from florida in 1936. the pair of gators were gifts to ny mayor la guardia from the mayor & postmaster of west palm beach when the dc -2 flew a maiden flight from florida to the big apple. the dc -2 had to make a forced landing near port jervis ny. when the post office recovered the cargo the gators were missing!! 1936 postage rate for shipping 2 live baby gators???? .60 cents each!!! :vom:
