New England Air Museum

Has anyone been to this museum lately. I was wondering if their Wildcat was ever placed on display.

I don't know if it's been on display the museum lately, but they do use it at remote events like the Westfield and Westover airshows and such. Since it fits on a regular road trailer, they don't have to worry about Wide Load permits.

I was at the New England Air Museum on September 16th and did not see their FM-2 Wildcat, BuNo 74120. I explored all the display buildings and the aircraft outdoors but did not get to look in their restoration building nor any storage buildings/areas.

I visited last year and it was in the one of the back buildings not open to the public, looked in fairly good shape

This Sunday NEAM has one of their Open Cockpit Sunday events. Quite often, they also open up and man their other buildings/areas normally off-limits to museum goers. Maybe, you can look around Sunday and see?

As a former Associate Curator at NEAM, I thought it was neat to see the maniquin in the cockpit with the flight gear on in your first pic. Since I was the Costume Curator, that was one of the dummies I outfitted for the FM-2.
It's been awhile since I've seen it with the "pilot" in it.

Slightly hijacking a thread here...

Any updates on NEAM's Mustang project? Last info I have on it is several years old, indicating it was in the early stages of restoration to static in its 1949 Thompson Trophy/would-be recordbreaker configuration...

And there is sits from what I could tell when we where there this spring, it was in the Back lot storage and not the "restoration Hanger". I assume that means it is not under active restoration at this time.

Anson Johnson's P-51, N-13Y, was being worked on by two volunteers up until about 6 years ago. One went to A&P school and shortly thereafter the other had to move to Charlotte, NC when the company he worked for moved. He now is a volunteer with the Carolina Aviation Museum in Charlotte.
Since no one else had the initiative, and other projects were already in the works, N-13Y was put on hold and stored. It would be great to see the project start up again, as the aircraft's Thompson Trophy win and history fills a gap in the museum's unique collection of original Thompson Racers.

Anybody in New England interested?

Are you sure thats not a WIX dummy on open cockpit day?

I hope that before they start to work on that P-51 again they need to worry about getting the F-4 and the A-10 back inside before the weather takes a toll on them ...
