Urbana Ohio B-17

Feeling bored today I rented a cessna and flew down to Urbana to look in on this project. What a great bunch of people. They showed me around the hangar and the various assemblies under rebuild. They project another 5 to 7 years. The pictures are self explanitory. If you get a chance take time to visit the hangar.

Now that is what i call fun.It is coming along very nice from what it started out like.The nose bulkheads will be done shortly, Frame1 and 2.Frame 11 tooling is done and the rest of the frames as time goes by.

Seeing Liberty Belle laying all aroung the hangar in various piece to the left & right and thinking exactly the same thing

Then, a year later......all bolted together and standing on her gear.

Where there is a Will and a Wallet, there is a Way. Right?

I hope to be able to make a stop by around the Mustang Gathering. It might be a great chance for the group to collect some much needed funding with all us warbird fans in the general area.

Maybe the little friends can once again save a Bomber.

FYI: I make no money making this reference, but Scott's book is a must if you enjoy surviving B17's. It was the very first Warbird book I bought for my library many years ago.

I'm not familiar with this project, since it isn't being assembled in fixtures is it going to be a static for a museum?

Looks to have some nice new skin work.

It is odd that they don't have jigs. I thought about that as I watched a worker rivet metal on the rudder. The skin work is first rate and the plan is to leave it natural metal. No paint scheme has been chosen other than the natural finish. Thanks for the comments on the photos...I"ll keep them coming...at least one more year on the road!
