Has anybody visited here and have pictures of Corsair Bu. 97369 and Corsair Bu. 13459? They are reported on display. Are there any other aircraft on display?

Scott, On the museum's website if you click onto "interactive map", then click onto the center circular area of the building's diagram. A series of photos should come up showing in what they call the "Leatherneck Gallery". The first photo shows an A-4 hanging over a Sikorsky helicopter. The second, third and seventh photos show the 2 Coirsairs "flying" over everything else. Its looks like a must visit to me!

You already have my pics of both planes in the registry from the old USMC Air to Ground Museum. The other airplane in the photos on the Museum's sight is an AV-8B Harrier and it looks to me like it is one of the FSD birds. (BuNo. 161396 to 161399). Of these 161397 is at the Carolinas Aviation Museum and 161396 is at the Pax River Museum. So that leaves one of the other two. Can anyone confirm which plane this is?

I just wonder what happened to all the other aircraft that were at the USMC Air to Ground Museum including a Wildcat, Panther, MiG-15, SNJ, etc.

After some more surfing...I clicked on Iconic Artifacts and it looks like the F9F is in the Korea Gallery. The Vietnam gallery says there is an A-4. And a DH.4 in the Legacy Walk.

Looks like some additional helos scattered about too.

Oooops. I identified the AV-8 as an A-4. Sorry about that. Jim, I was wondering the same thing about the other planes at the Air Ground Museum. I do know the Hellcat went to the Evergreen Air Museum in Oregon and the SBD went to the Natl Museum of the USAF.

The museum has an Avenger also. check www.marineheritage.org/news_PhotoGaller ... =11/1/2005 Click onto the last photo on this page. There are 2 other aircraft in the photo as well. One is still wrapped during construction and the other is barely visible in the background. Anyone know which aircraft these are?

One of them looks like a V-1 Buzz Bomb to me, not sure about the other...

They had a Japanese Okha bomb at the old museum, I think that is the one in the pic. The other may be the Wildcat.

Glad to see most of the planes are at the new museum.

I have fond memories of the Wildcat, back in the late 70's my father took me to Quantico to see it, a Corsair, Hellcat, etc. (I seem to remember a Zero and C-47 being there?) It was a great time for a 12 year-old.

I also remember the Marine Corps Museum when it was all housed in one little two-story building on the base, lots of little dioramas back then. I used to visit it once a month while my parents were shopping at the commissary.

The UH-1E is the Huey that Stephen Pless was flying when he earned the MOH. He was flying with VMO-6 at the time.

Not having been a Marine,I had never heard of Stephen Pless.I googled his name and found several links to his exploits. The following link has an excellent description of his Medal of Honor actions.Quite a guy.

Unfortunately Stephen Pless was killed in a motorcycle accident a few years ago. Apparently, he had a habit of jumping a partially opened drawbridge on his way to work. One morning, he missed.

The Collings UH-1E was assigned to VMO-6 while Pless was with the squadron. He also flew it in combat.
