A pilot who knows how to suffer.

I got a message from Steve Atkin who works at Duxford and North Weald. Many may know him from Oshkosh where he volunteers with the line crew over at the P-51s. Steve is working on some repairs or maintenance on a MK V Spitfire, and it has been down a few weeks. Steve says the owner is getting impatient and has had to console himself in the meantime with only flying the P-40 and P-51. Man, there's a guy who knows how suffer in style!

If its who I think it is, its a Mk XI Spitfire. and he has a superb toybox

I feel his pain! (and Steve's)

It can only be the special call of the "Spitfire" that bekons the owner to return to the air as soon as possible in one of God's greatest creations. Must be that the P-40 and P-51 just don't cut the mustard!
I should have such problems!

Bob Jepson told me in 2002 during a 4th FG reunion trip to his hangar in Savannah that he "tries" to put in at least one hour per week per each of his Mustangs ... but, he said he REALLY loves flying the L-39. "Quiet and smooth".

Hey, SOMEBODY'S gotta do it! Pray for them.

Thanks, Bill! Up until the time that I read your post, this was just another crappy Monday at the office. Now, I'm repeatedly bashing my head into my desk!

After flying with Bill in the Spitfire, having also flown in a Mustang, the Spitfire wins hands down. I could see how he would be going thru withdrawls.
