I’ll drop some personal phone numbers in your inbox today, but here’s a start in no particular order to some folks that are not too far from MKE:

The CAF Great Lakes Wing has a C-47 and a Ju-52 in Gary IN. Talk to Bob Bos, Wing Leader.

The Prairie Aviation Museum in Bloomington IL has a DC-3. Talk to Norm Wingler.

The CAF Southern Minnesota Wing has a bunch of stuff.

The American Wings Air Museum in Blaine MN has an S-2F along with some OV-1Ds and some L-birds.

Word on the street is that the Waukesha WI CAF Harpoon is in the process of being sold and they're planning to use the proceeds to buy an L-bird or two. My buddy would like to be part of a crew doing a short flying tour in addition to helping out with restoration work--don't know how realistic that is but I'm trying to help him network. thanks.

American Wings Air Museum does indeed plan to operate its S-2F and at least one OV-1 Mohawk in 2007. Our L-Bird is in the middle of an engine rebuild at the moment.

Your friend will definately be welcomed at AWAM. Please have him contact either AWAM's Ex. Dir. Len Burgers, or our Dir. of Maintenance Stan Rosand at 763-786-4146.

I plan on flying the Mohawk to various air shows throughout the midwest this year, and could always use an extra "wrench" just in case something major breaks...

I wish him well, and tell him that all of us flying, working, or in some way supporting warbirds welcome him to the community!!

PS: If he doesn't like the idea of traveling to Blaine, MN to volunteer, let him know that it's a 6-hour drive each way for me and, in the summer months, I sometimes make the trip 2-3 times a month. Keeping these old birds flying is worth the effort.

Actually, I'm not even working the airplane all that hard... Most folks don't realize that the Mohawk is fully aerobatic (with the exception of spins). She may look kinda strange, but she is light on the controls, extremely responsive, and most enjoyable to have in one's hands.

Hmmm, reminds me of a girl I... err-- never mind!

I will have to admit, it is nice to know that someone is actually watching the best looking airplane at AirVenture!

Kudos to you, Mohawk pilot for you efforts and dedication. And I thought people gawked when I told them it's only 2 1/14 hrs. down to Galveston for me. As you said, it's worth the trip.
