Sim you said it well! I don't think I could really add onto that other than mentioning, the PG gov't probably just wants to try and get as much money out of it as possible before the plane is gone.

What remains true, is that I believe the airplane needed to be removed from where it was for the last few decades. To at least be protected from further damage, deterioration, and vandalism.

Cheers,

David

Ok Bill, stop laughing
I'd love to see that a/c here in the staes flying or otherwise. But bribing
people and trying to sneak it out of a foreign country is not the way to do it.
BTW you never responded to my statement. First in line, *ss kicking contest. :?: :?:
Youre kidding right? You get it anyway you can and you may have to deal with shaddy characters but sooooo what. Save the plane that is paramount.

No need for flame suit jack. Lets just call this mission justifiable reclamation for preservation. Knowing the people who are envolved there was nothing crooked in this deal.Just the govt of png going back on their agreement and it is not the first time. They got what they deservedIMO. :)

So let me get this straight- the corrupt PNG government was trying to keep SG there to squeeze more money from the deal, but they were thwarted by other corrupt people in the same PNG government who took bribes to let SG out?

The government cares so much about it, that they didn't notice it was gone until it was at the docks.

Yupo BDK..that's kinda the whole tamale as I see it. If I remember correctly
as well, the actual local owners and "administrators" of SG got a paltry
25% of the cash..some school supplies and medical supplies. She's become
a cash cow...part of this deal was blown by a gringo who preferred SG to
be preserved in place in the swamp..Hollywood can't write crap like this!

Yeah. I was too Jack but in that part of the world..and ours, if you look just beneath
the surface, is how it works. This business has been conducted for a number of
years in this way. All was well, there was no secret as to the way the the
museum director was horsetrading..it was public knowledge. As I understand it
the rush to get Swamp Ghost out of the country was not a case of theft, so
much as it was a case of expediency to export the bird before the "opposition" reasoned they needed more "cut" of the deal.

This is not unique to PNG..aren't the Italians notorious for privately selling
warbird projects to foreigners, only to have customs or antiquities officials
"queer the deal" on the grounds of protecting their "heritage"? Of course,
the buyer never gets reimbursed since they were involved in an attempt
to remove a historic project illegally. Just my 2P...
