Those are some loooong days Peter! Was Transpo the last time three Lightnings flew together? I know the CAF had three at Harlingen one years as well.

Peter may be thinking of Airwar 74 (Windsor), which I know he attended. I don't know of an occasion since then.

mustangdriver...Just curious. Why would you have her stay in KY? It seems to me that they rarely flew her. Perhaps Mr. Lewis will bring her to a few more airshows than the KY folks. The CAF in Frederick, MD. told me that the KY owner wanted a small fortune just to bring her for a static display. (Yes, I fully understand how much money was/is tied up in her.)
Hopefully, Mr. Lewis will lean more toward bringing Glacier Girl to the public than having the public come to her.

On the subject of seeing Glacier Girl fly...Mrs. Mudge (the magnanimous) has given me the OK to attend the PoF airshow alone. (She knows that I don't like to go without her but she also knows how much I want to see 3 P-38's together.)
She's not willing to take the time off from school as state tests are being conducted at that time.

I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing 3 P-38's do a, ba--s to the wall, formation fly-by at about 500 ft.

Mudge the fortunate :D

Dear Mudge the Fortunate,

One thing about this wonderful idea about your attending the PoF airshow and seeing THREE Lightnings.....Three words come to mind. PICTURES, PICTURES, PICTURES....please

Paul, ya' say ya' want a lot o' pictures. Tell ya' what I'm gonna' do...
I'm gonna give ya' some idea...
Last year I took over 400 and that was with only 1 P-38 there.
This year I've got a couple of 4G cards and a portable hard drive with a 20G capacity.
'Nuff said?

Mudge the enthusiastic

FILM...I don't use no stinkin' film.
Had to take the camera away from my face long enough to eat. Which I do quite well. I think it would even be fair to say that I've never saw a meal I didn't like.
The Warrior lists to port each time I take off. Have to use a lot of aileron to adjust.

Mudge the porker

Not really...I'm down to a svelte 250.

I'm sure Peter was, as was I, but I confused it with Transpo for some reason!

Chad & K5083,

Well I was actually thinking of both Transpo72 and Airwar74. :)

I attended both these shows and both had three P-38's in attendance.

Transpo was the first time the 'Confederates' had ventured in force out of Texas. They had 'Scatterbrain Kid' plus one other (no serial/reg. in view) and Bill Ross had his parked further up the ramp.

At Airwar the three were Johnny Bolton's N3JB, Bill Ross' N9005R again and Bill Edwards N3800L.

If Airwar 74 was indeed the last time 3 Lightnings flew together, I will be quite pleased to have attended both that and the "next" such gathering 34 years later. It has been far too long.

The "other" P-38 at Transpo72 was most likely Lefty's White Lightning. As seen here with Scatterbrain Kid at Amon Carter Airport back in '72.

Peterson AFB in 1992, according to this thread........

Peter, I think we established that the silver P-38 was N345, later with Gary Levitz, now at the War Eagles musseum in NM.

Connery, certainly you've heard of Gary Levitz and "Double Trouble" which he raced at Reno for many years. (note the clipped tips on the '38) I'm not sure how long this P-38 was associated with the CAF or how, as I don't think it was ever officially one of theirs.
