Fiat G.91 Design

I have been Googling trying to determine where the design for the Fiat G.91 originated. Was it actually another F-86 variant, or was the design merely influenced by the success of the F-86? There isn't much definitive information on the web. Anyone here a G.91 expert?

G.91 is smaller than a F-86, it was given this shape because people would associate it with the Sabre.
There was an excellent article on the G.91 in International Air Power Review a while back.
I know the plane was a runner up for a standard NATO bird, along with the Breguet Taon and one British plane whose name I forgot.

Hi guys.
I think there is little doubt that the G.91 was merely a scaled down F-86, at least from an aerodynamics point of view. Considering that Fiat was then building the F-86K under licence this is less than surprising.
The G.91 won the 1957 NATO tactical fighter competition, but failed to receive production orders from countries that were protecting their own industries. It succeeded in Germany, which was keen to rebuild its own, and in turn Germany sold them to Portugal. On the other hand, Italy had ordered the pre-series batch before the competition, so perhaps the intent was not really to select the best type ...
One was demonstrated to the US Army and, in fact, there are photos with US markings. Now there's a restoration project for some ambitious Italian-American!
