Favorite Magazine?

I was just wondering if there is a consensus on the best warbird magazine. I'm looking for some historical articles along with current news and photos. I'm not a huge fan of Air Classics, and Flight Journal has a little bit of everything (good mag though).

However, this doesn't much help Cripes with his search for a magazine containing "some historical articles along with current news and photos" as WD contains pretty much exclusively the latter.

If you don't like 'Air Classics' and 'Flight Journal' doesn't cover your needs, you might find the UK magazines 'FlyPast' and 'Aeroplane Monthly' (both widely distributed in the US) worth a look, although they do give a wider coverage than just warbirds.

The best American warbird magazine, easily in my mind, is WWI Aero. The pictures might be b&w but the text is scholarship.

I really enjoyed the article in the last WD about Clyde East and 'Lil Margaret. That wasn't a current story, although it had some current pictures.

When I was down in Australia about 10 years ago I found a magazine called Classic Wings Downunder. It is a fantastic magazine with good writing and excellent images. It's a great way to get up to date in the warbird world of the southern hemisphere.

I had a subscription for quite a few years, but can't really afford it anymore. Not that it's too expensive, I'm just poor.

So, check out that magazine. It's great.

If you are looking for information on Warbirds then hands down Warbird Digest followed closely by Classic Wings. If you are looking for a more historical view on these aircraft then I'd go with Flypast and Aeroplane Monthly.

Sounds like Warbirds Digest is the winner. I haven't seen it around here anywhere, probably why I haven't given it more serious consideration. I'll try a subscription. I also used to pick up Flypast when it was available so I'll look for that as well. Seems like good aviation mags aren't as easy to find as they used to be.

I personally have noticed that Fly Past has more of a historical look at the aircraft that the others. However, when it comes to pictures Warbird Digest wins.
