This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

What type of aircraft is this? Looks a little unfamiliar to me.

You know, that is what I though initially too but must be an early model or something, seems like it possibly has some Curtis Electric props, different canopy, just looks a little different than the A-20 to me? I am not all that familiar with the evolution of that type, mostly just the gun nosed versions. That was definitely my first instinct but couldn't convince myself.

Imagine all the people on G503 salivating over the F parts on that poor GPW...

Maybe a Martin Maryland or a Baltimore?

Saabmeister,
I think it is a Bristol Beaufort judging by the canopy configuration. Some Beauforts were built with Pratt & Whitneys, and I believe the score is R1830-1, Jeep-0! (The photo I've posted shows the earlier Taurus powered aircraft with the external counterweight props, but you get the idea.)

Scott,
You are definitely right. I had thought Beaufort but didn't realize they ever had the Pratts.
thanks, Ryan

Oops, my bad! I saw a US engine and took the wrong turnoff. A Beaufort it is indeed!

Good Observation! I was wondering how you knew it was a Ford, but then I spotted the toolbox lid.....

RAAF Beaufort in New Guinea. Aussie Beauforts [some 700 made in Oz] were PW R-1830 powered [ also made in Oz by CAC] under licence] and had both Curtiss electric [fitted here] and Ham Std props.

I believe it's RAAF Beaufort A9-557, recovered from Tadji in PNG (pre Independance) by Ian Whitney and Monty Armstrong. It is now property of Aust War Memorial. See
www.awm.gov.au/aboutus/conservation/beaufort/index.htm for photos.
I have climbed in it when it was shipped here to Auz.
Ian has copies of the accident from different angles. This is one I haven't seen.
Some of the details can be found in an old British magazine called "Control Column" Vol 10 No 3. Also shows some of the P40s they managed to recover.
