F-4 Phantom Canopy

Sat May 05, 2007 10:35 am

Hi guys,

I remember a while back that someone had mentioned that a F-4 Canopy had been stolen. I'm not casting any fowl eyes since I don't know the seller of this item at all, but I did none-the-less come across an F-4 canopy on barnstormers.com

Take a look at it. It's probably not the canopy in question, but I thought I'd post it anyways.

F-4 REAR CANOPY & GLAS • $750 • AVAILABLE FOR SALE • Rear "Six" canopy removed from an unknown F-4 Phantom. It has the plexiglass in place and it was not cut when removed. The latches are in place as well as the mirrors on the front edge. The glass has scratches across the surface from storage and such but most should be able to be buffed out. • Contact Michael Ryan - AIRCRAFT STOCK located Cleveland, TN USA • Telephone: 423-438-0525 • Fax: 423-438-0526 • Posted May 4, 2007 • Show all Ads posted by this Advertiser • Recommend This Ad to a Friend • Email Advertiser • Report This Ad

If you go to barnstormers.com it has pictures, just in case anyone wants a closer look.

Cheers,

David

I believe that the purloined canopy came from an extremely rare F4H variant of the Phantom II, which was a very different kettle of fish from later examples (much lower profile). Without actually seeing the canopy on offer, it would be hard to tell if it was the one missing... thanks for bringing it up though... we should all be on the lookout for these sorts of things.

Cheers,
Richard

Hi everybody,
As mentioned above, the stolen canopies are from a early and very rare F-4. They have a completely different profile from the " mass production" models, especially the rear. The ones Michael has are from either a F-4J or F-4S (Navy or Marines). I just visited his warehouse to pickup some stuff for our museum. He is trying to help the guy doing the restoration track down the parts they need. He has received alot of calls asking if the canopies he has are the stolen ones. It is nice to know that the warbird community is trying to help in the hunt. I have a bad feeling that the thief either took them just to be an ######, or some idiot is using them as a greenhouse for green leafy plants. Hopefully they will turn up intact but I'm afraid it's just whistling in the dark.
Good luck,
Brian
