I trying to figure out the type of gun camera used in the T-28 B, or any model besides the GUPPY. It should be a regular 16mm camera. I think it is an AN-N6, but I have no way of verifying that, I don't have the parts manual. I intend to rectify that with a NATA membership and a few purchases from them.

My bud just recieved a cool christmas gift from T-28 Chuck. A gun camera door. This got us to looking to see if there was a gun camera door on the plane, and, we found it on the left wing. We opened it up, and, the connection for the camera is there, and it's probably still hooked up. That got us to thinking...and well....any help from WIX bro's would be greatly appreciated. I need,

The actual designation of the gun camera. AN-somthing.

The part number for the tray it goes in.

The part number for the plexiglass?, piece that goes on the leading edge of the wing.

Someone else has my buds manual, and theres a potential Trojan for Lunch bunch meeting next month. Being the first with gun camera formation footage and high speed breaks from the meet, would rock, to say the least.

AN N6 is the correct camera for that aircraft. I don't know about the mount or plexi but I do know that someone has done it on the West Coast with typical poor results on the camera. Don't count on the films being as good as the ones you see in original footage. According to an old friend who developed that stuff in WWII, for every good foot of film, there were three or four feet of VERY hard to see things that looked like airplanes. No wonder the aces didn't get credited with as many as they probably shot down.

sounds like a good reason for making up some mounts and mounting a decent new technology video/digital/film camera there. the sort that'll use the existing brackets of course as wouldn't want to have to change anything on the plane, just in case.

and there's another thought! these flight combat schools or whatever they are, anyone ever thought of using those there? and if so would they be using the same positioning and such? might be an easy way to get a camera to fit. or to be able to sell some if you do.

Yeah OP, it would definitely be nice to have an original gun-camera as a
display..but it would really be exciting to adapt a modern/shock-protected
mounted camera to get "quality gun footage". Something modern, but adaptable to the original mounting location without damaging the
stock structure.

Jeffrey, As I have seen in some situations in the Dogfight Rides..part
of the "sale" is enhanced with video documentation of the experience.
This can be also be true for skydiving, bungee, circle-track, or road-racing schools. The technology is very handy and adaptable these days.

FF: Thanks man. You're right, theres not much to film. It would be cool to get the flyby's and some formation stuff though. As for the modern cameras, that's what will end up there if it gets done at all. Looking at the gun door compartment, theres a place to mount the holder/bracket, and there are two holes in front of that area. It wouldn't be that big of a deal to mount a sencond lense on the right side of the brackett facing out of the right hand hole. That would just be wired back into the cockpit area and have an svideo connection up there. Then just get a regular screw mount, like on a camera tripod, afixxed to the center area by the first aid kit. All you would have to do then is screw the camera onto the mount, plug in the svideo to the camera, press record. You could record the whole flight, probably ain't going to see much. It will be much cheaper and easier to record flybys and stuff, than having to have the film processed, then burned to dvd, just to find out 100+ dollars and 2 weeks later that the film was overexposed or something like that.
