SEEKING INFO AND PHOTOS OF THIS F4U-4 CORSAIR b/n 96885. IT IS OWNED BY A FRIEND AND THE WINGS ARE STORED IN ONE OF OUR HANGERS. THE REST IS IN CA STORED IN A SHIPPING CONTAINER CRAMMED FULL OF PARTS AND ASSEMBLIES. THE REGISTRY SAYS IT'S MISSING THE REAR FUSELAGE BUT IT IS COMPLETE EXCEPT FOR THE PROP. THE PLAN IS TO EVENTUALLY MOVE THE REST UP HERE ALSO.

Hey Jack,

The rear fuselage included with that plane is from BuNo.97059 (FAH-617). The forward section for that Corsair is still in Honduras after being discovered partially buried in the local boneyard a few years back. It was originally damaged in a crash during 1977 while still in active service with Honduras!

617's rear fuselage was recovered by itself during the big Hollywood Wings recovery in 1980, and was eventually mismatched with BuNo.96885's forward fuselage section when the plane was purchased from Hollywood Wings' inventory of disassembled major components.

Drop me an e-mail if you want and I'll give you the long drawn out boring version of it all ;)

Yup, Brad that's the one.
Wayne actually squeezed himself in the the container. Way to cramped
and dark for pictures much less really getting a look at the bird. The fuselage did receive a large amount of work before Peter Crown helo crash in Hawaii and is very straight. I don't have any photos of it but can take some of the wings (one data plate syas F4U-1 I believe)which are a bit munched. John Lane quoted $100,000 per wing. I'll see if i can come up with some photos from Wayne or Lori, how bout you Rob, any photos???

Just got some pictures from Wayne. Not the best has he was holding the camera in one hand and a flash light in the other. Scott can load them when he has the chance. I'll take some shots of the wings this week.
