Auxillary Fields around Arizona

Sat Jan 01, 2005 9:58 pm

Hello Everybody:

Since the discussion about Iron Range has been popular, I'm wondering if anyone has seen the at least 10-15 auxillary fields in southern Arizona. There are at least 5-6 between Gila Bend and Yuma. Anyway, take a look at this link:

http://www.airfields-freeman.com/AZ/Air ... laBend.htm

I flew over this area, and there are at least five abandoned airports in the Gila Bend area. They are all called Luke or Williams Auxillary airfields.

The one closest to the town of Gila Bend has an Auxillary airport that also served as a B-25 base. It even still has concrete revetments. Anyway after flying over these airfields I emailed the webmaster of the above website, and he thinks it's possible there may be some parts buried out there.

I was ferrying a super cub back from Ca and landed at a few to take a wiz and explore. It is pretty neat also there are alot of pipline airstrips that are closed but I landed anyway! Nobody is out there to rat you out! Lots of fun
