Stromberg NAT 4B carbeuretor. Note USN stamp on data plate- "For Mod" on first photo. For Wright J5/R790. I would like to know which USN aircraft in inventory used the R790. Anybody know?

The Wright Whirlwind J-5 went by its military designation of R-790. It was used by the Army and the Navy on the Consolidated PT-1 (Army) and PT-3 (Navy) trainers. It was also used on the Ryan NYP, flown by Charles Lindbergh across the Atlantic in 1927.

It was rated at 225 hp.

Walt

Thanks

Walt,
I figured out the Atlantic Crossing connection, but know very little about 20's and 30's aircraft (unless they were also used in WWII). Appreciate the information.
Should I go back and get the rest of the aircraft? (evil laugh...)
