CBS morning show

Sun Feb 06, 2005 10:16 am

Good morning everyone. I've been a WIX viewer for a long time, but never posted and thought I'd jump in. There was a short story on CBS morning show that showed the coronation of the Queen around 1953....To get the film over here first CBS flew it aboard what looked like a P-51B/C that looked white with some color trim. Any idea what plane it was or pics of the aircraft involved? I love the forum and the photos that are posted. Keep up the good work, Tailwinds, Steve.

On the CBS Sunday morning show, they were talking about the coronation of Elizabeth in the early 50's, and how the networks vied for the first to get the films over here to show to the public. The fastest transportation at the time with the range was a P-51. CBS got here first and showed the film to all the United States on the air. The clip they showed this morning was short and I got curious about the aircraft involved. My friend Dick Phillips came to the rescue. Here's the planes. CBS had P-51B N5528N 43-6822 and NBC had P-51C NX1204 42-103831. How times have changed.... I long for those days. Tailwinds, Steve.

Yep, that's it! Dick Phillips had a pic of both planes that showed the whole plane. Pretty good looking machines! Thanks for sharing, Tailwinds.
