I notice the Belle's tailwheel doesn't retract, and i've seen this on other forts...why not?

I understand that CNN was shooting some film on this, and the story is expected to air today (Friday 2/25/05) at 10:00 Eastern time. If a bigger
story comes up, it will be the following Monday.

I guess some larger story came up :)

The CNN program on Gen. Tibbets (including the Liberty Belle) is now set to air tonight (Tue.) at 10:00 eastern time.

I got the following answer to the question. If it doesn't extend, it's difficult to manually lower it. Combine that with the inability to verify it's position from the cockpit, and most operators are willing to put up with the increased drag just to have one less thing to worry about.
