Dan Dugan invited me to go to the Dream Machines show in Half Moon Bay. We mounted up at 9:30ish and headed out from LVK. The weather was,,, well, you could see the Sunol pass, east was clear. As soon as we got up you could see through to the bay. We went through the pass herding cows, (that was AWESOME!), broke out on the bay/salt flats, and saw clouds backing up on the other side of Woodside. We saw daylight and went over between layers, we could see the ocean. That was cool. It was like one of those motivational or religious videos, puffy clouds all over, ocean view......
Cue New Age music...
Announcer:(Soft voice) You are calm, You feel good, People like you, You are special...
It would have been mellow, except for 1425 hp roaring outta 9 cylinders, instead,,,,the words, hmmm, how do I say it?.... I got it now,, screw special, I'm in a T28B haulin a serious load of alpha sierra sierra.
We came out south, went up and did an awesome break. It was bird fest on the north end of the runway. When we were on on short final the biggest seagull in the world, it had a 15 foot wingspan, it probably weighed in at a buckfifty and had a head the size of of pumpkin, looked directly at me from about 5 feet from the starboard wing. Never saw that before. I puckered up very nicely. (Insert collapsing index finger and thumb circle here) Dan told the temp tower that there was birds, and the next thing I heard was "Caution, bird activity on the north end of the runway". Those dudes are quick. It was cool. We got in just in time to get a ramp parking space. The BT-13 right after us got grass. The Mustang right after him got pavement. (Note to self, get a Mustang.)
We parked in a cool spot. Dan and I were getting ready to airshow clean the exhaust off of 242J, when the global WIX contingent showed up to say hello. All of us shot the breeze for awhile, then decided to get our picture taken in front of Norcals global mecca of WIX, 242Julliet. I'm the super cool dude wearing the hat in the first picture.
It was a great airshow. There were about eleventythree T28's and Mustangs there and some other airplanes. Roger C told me about a merin powered car, but I didn't make it over to the car side. There were to many quality North American Aircraft products occupying my day. At about three everyone fired up and started doing flybys. It was Mustang overload! I got some footage of that too.
Thanks again for the great day Dan! It was cool meeting you Roger. We should link at a couple dozen more airshows.
