To end all the speculation of what's been going on here the last few days with the locked post and the personal attack thread I thought I'd lay it all out for you guys. Yesterday morning as I perused my way the http://www.mustangsmustangs.com forum I saw a recent post in which the writer recalled an encounter with the gang from Challenge Publications in their B-25 at Frenso about 30 years ago (BTW I was about 12 then). I found this humorous and pasted the meat of it here on the wix board for ya'll to enjoy. Here's the direct linkhttp://www.mustangsmustangs.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=487 . Everyone on both boards seemed to find a lot of humor in this except for Mr. O'Leary of Challenger Publications. Both Scott and myself have received emails from Mr. O'Leary threatening us with immediate legal action if the post isn't removed and an apology replaces it. I responded to Mr O'Leary yesterday and have not heard back from him. This was my response:
Dear Mr. O'Leary,
These are not my comments and I didn't make then so what should I apologize for?. I only transferred the post from the www.mustangsmustangs.com site stating so and I made NO additional comments or opinions. My entire comments on the thread consist of this:
"I saw this on the MustangMustangs site and thought it would be of interest". I am not the writer and made no comments and stated no opinions.I'm not sure what I should apologize for? Having started reading AC starting with Vol 1 #1 maybe it's time to stop. There's a new great magazine out there now thanks to Tim Savage.
Regards..........JACK COOK
I found Mr. O'Leary's attorney via the internet and wrote him the following:
Mr. Finkle,
This is my reply to Mr. O'Leary.
If he feels that he needs some kind of apology, I
would suggest that he contact the person who
actually made the statement and discuss it with them.
Jack Cook
I have not heard back from Mr. Finkle either. I was given no deadline, but Scott by email this morning was given until 6 PM PST to give in to Mr. O'Leary's demands. Scott told me by email today that it ain't happening.

So now you know what's going on. My questions are why isn't Mr. O'Leary pressing the issue with the person who wrote the story, the person who posted it or the Mustangs forum itself. His issue seems to be just with Scott and myself. For the record I've never met Mr. O'Leary, don't know anything about him, wouldn't know it if I passed him on the sidewalk and have never said one word about him pro or con. If anyone deserves my apology it's Scott for bring this upon him inadvertidly. If Mr. O'Leary wants my apology he needs to explain what I did wrong and how it somehow defamed him. There has there was no personal attack made upon Mr. O'Leary by Scott, myself or anyone else I know of.

Ya know, you stay away for a few days and the drama hits the fan. I was wondering what you all were being cloak and dagger about. Now that i know the rest of the story the only thing I have to say is: "OH DEAR LORD, YOU"VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME" I can't stand folks who threaten a legal course of action just to push people around and get their way. Do people a favor, either turn the other cheek or go pack sand.

Just be careful with what you say, no need to cause even more problems. :)

Geez I thought most celebrities don't read stuff about themselves on the internet. I once asked former Deep Purple singer Joe Lynn Turner if he cared about all the silliness and anti JLT comments about him on the internet and he said he couldn't give a f*** about it. I quite liked the answer good for him. Why should O Leary care?

There's a wording in Switzerland - roughly translated:

"The dog barks when hit"......

I fully agree with you Jack.
